Report on testing of antitumor activity of the medication «Mucus»
The medication «Mucus» had been given by Dr. Ziuganov (Institute of Developmental Biology, Russian Academy of Science) and before the testing was being kept at -18 °С. Mice were vaccinated innerabdominally with Ehrlich’s ascites carcinoma (106 cells). From the next day after the vaccination of the tumor 10 mice were given drinking water with mucus (1:200) and 10 mice received drinking water without the medication (control). All of them were been under control. Fresh medication solution was prepared every other day. The amount of liquid which the mice had drunk was measured daily. That index came to 3.5–4.5 ml per mouse daily and usually was equal in both groups. The days of death of the mice were registered.

All the mice of the control group died from the 9th to the 13th day after the vaccination of the tumor. 50% of the mice that had been given mucus survived the 13-day period. The average life-time of a mouse, affected by the medication, credibly increased by 16,7% (р = 0.03).
In testing of anti tumor activity of new cytostatic agents the criterion of minimal antitumoral effect, that enabled to recommend the medication for further investigations, is 25% inhibition. However, taking into account the fact of peptide origin and lower toxicity of mucus, the obtained preliminary results are worth serious notice and allow to recommend the medication «mucus» for researches of its antitumoral activity on tumor strains of different histogenesis according to international regulations and the programme of Pharmacological Committee.
